✨ BIG WINS for Jackson! ✨
Prior to starting our journey with Experience Wellness, Jackson struggled with emotional and often times physical regulation. His lack of impulse control led to multiple incident reports a week from preschool. Jackson would get overstimulated easily, and it took him longer than expected to come down from his heightened emotional state. Jackson also never liked to be touched. Any time we put a hand on him, or tried to hug him / snuggle, he would push our hands away.
We tried several things to help Jackson with his behavioral setbacks, including occupational therapy. While he gained valuable skills from OT, he plateaued quickly and we weren’t seeing any incremental improvements in his day to day behavior. It was extremely frustrating as parents to feel helpless in our efforts to help Jackson.
2 months in to his care plan was when we really started to notice improvements. His preschool teacher also commented on several occasions after that first 8 weeks at EW that Jackson was “turning a corner” in the classroom. Jackson gradually went longer periods between heightened emotional episodes, and was becoming more and more self aware of his body and his actions.
Jackson has not received an incident report from preschool in 3 months!! This is an incredible improvement given we had been receiving multiple a week prior to starting with EWC. He just received a progress report from school, in which his teacher noted the following: “Jackson has shown great improvement in concentration and managing his impulses” and “the change is really remarkable – he has become somewhat of a leader in the classroom”. We were thrilled to receive this positive feedback, and we felt so good to know our persistence to help Jackson is paying off! He also has become more affectionate recently, including allowing as many hugs and snuggles as I want – and he is often the one requesting them 🙂
